15/07/2016: Remote Desktops Temporarily Unavailable

Some users' Desktops were unavailable between 09:10 and 13:30 (approximately) due to a front-line application server crash and protracted recovery.

At first we assumed that the platform anti-virus software was the cause of the problem, but it transpired that this was a symptom rather than the cause, which was due to several individual services that should have started but didn't.
